Google Drive for desktop M1 support is coming April 2021

Google announced that Drive File Stream will be renamed to Google Drive for desktop. The branding in the product has also been updated to Google Workspace, the new name for G Suite.

Also the upcoming version 47 will have native M1 support and planned for release in April 2021.

Upcoming – April 2021 – Apple M1 Support

Windows and macOS: Version 47.0

  • Google Drive for desktop version 47.0 will support Apple M1 devices
  • Additional bug fixes and performance improvements.

January 11, 2021 – Google Drive for desktop

Windows and macOS: Version 45.0

  • Drive File Stream is now Google Drive for desktop. The branding in the product has also been updated to Google Workspace, the new name for G Suite.
    • The mount point path remains the same, so you can still find all your files in the same places, but shortcuts to the application have been renamed to Google Drive.
    • On macOS, the application name has been changed to Google Drive.app. No application name changes on Windows.
  • Additional bug fixes and performance improvements.
